Diwali is known as the “ festival of lights”. It is a five
day festival which start on Dhanteras, celebrated on the 13th lunar
day of Krishna paksha(Dark fortnight) of the Hindu calendar month, Aswin and
end of Bhaubeej , celebrated on second lunar day of shukla paksha ( bright overnight)
of the Hindu calendar month Katick. Diwali falls between mid-October and
mid-November . Diwali is an official holiday
India, Nepal, Sri Lanka , Singapore and many more.
For Hindu’s Diwali is the one of the most important festival
of the year. It is celebrated in families by performing traditional activities
together in there homes or at a temple.
The name Diwali or Divali is contraction of “ deepavail” which means “row of
lamps”. Diwali involves the lighting of lamps, filled with oil to signify the triumph
of good over evil. These lamps are kept on during the nights and one’s house is
cleaned, both done is order to make the goddess lakshmi feel welcome. Fireworks
are burst to drive away evil spirits.
